செய்யாமல் செற்றார்க்கும் இன்னாத செய்தபின்
ceyyāmal ceṟṟārkkum iṉṉāta ceytapin
உய்யா விழுமம் தரும்
uyyā viḻumam tarum
“Even to those who harm you unprovoked, do not render evil in return; for causing them hurt will bring you endless sorrow.”

The Strength of Patience
Thiruvalluvar emphasises that responding to harm with kindness, rather than retaliation, yields immeasurable benefits. The verse teaches that even when faced with those who wish us ill, we should refrain from causing them harm.
